High Desert Rural Health Care District

The History of High Desert Health District

High Desert Rural Healthcare District is a rural health care special taxing district. The question of the formation of the District was approved by voters in November 4, 2014 election. The purpose of the District is to provide financial support for operating and maintaining the Wamsutter Community Health Center in Wamsutter, providing health service support for Bairoil and financial support for the EMS Services in the District. Five local Trustees were elected by the voters and they took office in December, 2014. The District boundaries cover roughly one third of the area of Sweetwater County including the Towns of Wamsutter and Bairoil. The successful formation of the Health care District illustrates the power of citizens and industry partnering to create solutions to address local challenges.

In the spring of 2015 the Trustees selected Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County as the Clinic Operator for the Wamsutter Community Health Center, and the opened in September, 2015.

The District is proud to team up with MHSC to provide local access to primary care services to those who live and work in Wamsutter, and much needed occupational medicine services to the industry employers in the area.
